Highfield Level 3 Award for Deliverers of Physical Intervention Training within the Private Security Industry
The Highfield Level 3 Award for Deliverers of Physical Intervention Training within the Private Security Industry has been developed to meet the requirements of tutors who work within the private security industry and need to deliver training in physical intervention skills. This qualificati0n is supported by both the Security Industry Authority (SIA) and Skills for Security (SfS). Subjects covered include dynamic risk assessing, legislation relevant in the use of physical intervention, escorting techniques, managing and monitoring a person’s safety, responsibilities during medical emergencies, good practices to follow after physical interventions and effective communication techniques.
How long will it take me to achieve this qualification?
Unit 1 of this qualification must be undertaken over a minimum of 2-days. It is recommended that unit 2 is to be undertaken over 4-days, however, this may be adjusted in accordance with a learner’s needs and/or local circumstances.
How is the qualification assessed?
It is divided into 2-units and is assessed by the following methods:
Unit 1: Physical Intervention Skills within the Private Security Industry
Assessed in two parts. Part 1 is a practical test and part 2 is a written test set by Highfield. Learners must achieve a 100% pass mark in both tests.
Unit 2: Delivering Physical Intervention Training

Individuals achieving this qualification can progress on to further learning such as:
- Highfield Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (RQF)
- Highfield Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (RQF)
